Going away…

Yes, you read correctly…I am going away the end of this week. I will be in NEW ORLEANS Thursday through Sunday attending Jazz Fest. I’m excited to be going to such a wonderful city (I love it there) and equally as eager to take a little time away from Smitten. Those of you who know me… are aware that I don’t take a lot of time off. I should take more time for myself, but as any business owner knows…that’s easier said than done!
So while I’m away what will become of Smitten? Oh trust me when I tell you it will be left in the very capable hands of my staff! These fabulous women are just hoping for a busy four days…(maybe so I’ll go away more often!!!)
We have a lot of activity happening at Smitten, events, new signs out front, birthday parties etc…and our weekly favorite Wine, Cheese and Retail Therapy … will go on without me. (Rumor has it they plan to serve champagne this week!) I guess the old saying “while the cat’s away the mice will play” is true!
We hope you visit us soon and in the meantime…

Happy Birthday Teresa…

This week,Teresa, my partner in “crime and all good stuff” celebrates her birthday. I know what number it is, but I’ll let her share that with you. On Saturday, April 25, we are celebrating her and her day in true Smitten style…a style that she deserves. I hope you can take time to join us as we sip champagne, nibble on a cupcake and shop til you drop knowing that 10% of all the day’s sales will benefit the Autism Society of NC. The ASNC is an organization near and dear to my heart, many of you know my youngest son is profoundly autistic, being able to contribute anything to this organization always does my heart good. (thank you Teresa for choosing them as your birthday charity)
I couldn’t have asked for a better partner or friend…so happy birthday Teresa…from your friend “next door”.
We look forward to seeing you soon…don’t forget our Friday afternoon … Wine, Cheese and Retail Therapy…it is always great fun for all.

What a weekend ahead!!!

We are so excited for this weekend. For several weeks I have been mentioning ARTWALK…well it’s here! ARTWALK takes place Saturday from 10am to 5 pm, Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. We’ll be hosting a mollybeads preview party on Friday evening in conjunction with our Wine, Cheese and Retail therapy, during which we’ll be raffling off a $50 Smitten Gift certificate, a pair of mollybeads earrings and tickets to Sunday’s performance of Legally Blonde at the DPAC. (hint…you have to be present to win, show up and your odds will be good!)
The weatherman is forecasting beautiful weather all weekend! Please take some time out of your weekend and plan to visit not only us but all the local businesses and artists. And don’t forget … The Kings Daughter Inn on Buchanan Blvd has completed construction and is hosting an open house on Saturday. Stop by and wish them well! We look forward to seeing you soon.
In the meantime, Be Happy and Be Smitten!!

Spring Break or should it be spring “brake”?

This Friday marks the beginning of spring break for most schools in the area. When I asked my oldest son what he wanted to do over break, his response was …”Nothing Mom, I’d really like to do just that…take a break!” Well, that makes sense…doesn’t it? Taking a break doesn’t cost anything and it is probably the most beneficial thing we would do for ourselves. Imagine just relaxing in the confines of your own hometown. No airplanes to catch, highways to drive etc etc. So …it you’re not on an official spring break…try to slow down and brake for the beauty of spring that is beginning to unfold (FINALLY) around us. Go visit Duke Gardens, take a walk around our beautiful historic Brightleaf district…anything as long as it’s relaxing.
Don’t forget our Wine, Cheese and Retail Therapy every Friday afternoon from 4pm to 7 pm. It’s the best way to end your week or begin your weekend. We look forward to seeing you, so in the meantime…
