April in Paris and Durham!

Ahhh yes it’s April and it is indeed lovely in Paris but also in Durham. This month at Smitten we are about all things lovely with a French twist. Our beautiful store has its very own Eiffel Tower in the window and transports one into a chic Paris boutique immediately upon entering.
We’re very excited about everything that is happening in and around Smitten. We welcome new neighbors as the offices of the Duke University development staff move just a few short blocks away. We have many birthday celebrations booked in the calendar, and last but not least ARTWALK! Mark your calendars for April 18 and 19, we will be hosting Molly Anderson with mollybeads.
Please plan to join us on Friday afternoon 4pm to 7pm for our Wine, Cheese and Retail Therapy. It’s the best way to end your week or begin your weekend. We hope to see you soon and in the meantime,

Art Walk…

This week I am going to write briefly, but urge strongly, all of you to plan to participate in Durham’s ARTWALK on April 18 and 19. For those of you who have never participated in this…you should. And those of you that have no why I say that. This walk not only showcases fabulous artists and their works, it promotes local businesses like myself. We’ll be featuring Molly Anderson, and her FABULOUS mollybeads, and our “partner” in crime and all things good Teresa’s on Main will be showcasing the works of Lily Langer and Bob Harrison. Get to know downtown Durham…it is ever changing and so beautiful.

Til then…

Celebrating for others

This week on our website we added a page titled “The Smitten Birthday”. It is a program I am very excited about and hope it will be as much fun and rewarding as I imagine. At my age…I still like to celebrate my birthday with good friends, and love to do some good for those less fortunate. At Smitten we’re hoping to combine those two schools of thought and allow you to do both. The Smitten Birthday party is an evening for you and your friends after hours that allows your true inner diva to shine. Sip on ice cold champagne and nibble on gourmet birthday cake all the while knowing that 10% of your evening’s purchases will go to the charity of your choice. Feel good, while doing some good…Now that’s something to be Smitten with.
Don’t forget our Friday afternoon Wine, Cheese and Retail Therapy, it’s the best way to end your week or begin your weekend. We look forward to seeing you soon, in the meantime…

Take an afternoon…

This week I did something I rarely do, I took an afternoon off for no reason. That’s right, there were no appointments, sales reps or errands. I work a lot, so for me to take just an afternoon off…is a big deal. If you are a workaholic like me, I highly recommend you try it. What a pleasure it was to treat myself. Be good to yourself…you owe it to yourself and to those that depend on your care. My blog is brief this week. I took some much needed time off, and yes I’m a little bit behind…but you know what? I’ll get around to all that work and be much happier about it!
Take time out of your busy week and join us Friday for our weekly Wine, Cheese and Retail Therapy 4pm to 7 pm. It’s always a good time … and a great way to treat yourself!
We look forward to seeing you soon.
In the meantime,

Snow and Smelling the roses…

I was in NYC this past weekend, on a brief but productive accessory buying trip. Imagine my surprise when the snow prevented me getting home on Monday evening as I planned. Usually disturbances in my routine send me reeling, however this time I decided to enjoy the city in all its white beauty and take some time for myself. After all, I was in the greatest city in the world, my children were taken care of, and I had a confirmed seat on a flight the next day. If you haven’t been to NYC, you should. It is a city filled with as many different cultures as one could imagine. There is art, music and culinary delights for everyone, and of course some of the very best shopping.
I grew up in the northeast and often took the city for granted. I worked in the city for several years and hardly ever stopped to watch, look, and listen to what went on around me. Realizing this has given me a renewed interest in the hometown I reside in now, Durham. Wherever you live, take time to smell the roses in your own backyard…they’re just as beautiful as those in distant places.
So … I’m back home, spring will be here this weekend in the form of the weather and our clocks! We’ve gotten an abundance of those lovely accessories from my buying trip in…scarves, clutches and jewelry galore!
Don’t forget about our Friday afternoon Wine, Cheese and Retail Therapy from 4pm to 7pm. It’s a great way to celebrate the weekend and SPRING!
We look forward to seeing you soon, and in the meantime,
